The envelope please. And Dulcy's three choices for our next book are...
- Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates (Forget the movie. this book was recommended by three tough critics: Wook Kim, Rob Brunner and Sarina Israel--yes, a relation.)
- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (Originally, my first choice--but I'm equally interested in all three of these books.)
- The Road by Cormac McCarthy (the NYT says it posseses "pure, savage beauty." (Wook said it's one of the best nonfiction books he's read in years.)
Let us know which one you'd prefer to read and get back to us in the next two days. Dulcy is suggesting that we meet on Sunday, May 10. Let us know if that date works for you.
I vote for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. The evening of May 10 works for me.
ReplyDeleteI vote for either "Road" book, but only because I read "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" last summer. That said, it was a great book and I wouldn't mind listening to everyone else's critiques. I enjoyed his writing so much, I have been meaning to read his earlier short story collection, "Drown."
ReplyDeleteI vote for The Road. I also have read TBWLoOW, but happy to talk about it. Afraid that Revolutionary Road might give me the sads.
ReplyDeleteSocial planner extraordinaire Mary Huhn noted that May 10 is Mom's Day. Let us know if you'll have plans that evening. If it turns out many of you won't be able to come, Dulcy will suggest another date.
ReplyDeleteI think we should go for May 17, if weekends are best for everyone (I know it's better for you Louise). The last week of April is out because Mary's away. And earlier than that is too early. What think?
ReplyDeleteI adore The Road and would love to read it again ... plus the film version will star Viggo Mortensen, so if we get tired of talking about the book we can just talk about how hot he is.
ReplyDeleteFrom Carol:
ReplyDeleteHi,
I do not have a book preference, but the 10th is mom's day and my b-day so more than likely I'm going to be in NJ....all day...
I'm happy with the 17th.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. (Sorry, Louise!)
